Talk:VerbalModeling
From ControlsWiki
In general, this is well organized and well written. The following comments may serve to increase the clarity and effectiveness of the subject to those who havn't extensively researched it.
Define Verbal Modeling early. What are you trying to do? Why?
Your diasgram is a little confusing:
- The first box should be A GENERAL discription of the proicess (if you could completely describe it you woulkdn'thave to continue)
- I'd combine the Degree of Freedom box with Process Optimization as by definition you are in part negating it there with "unaccounted for degrees of freedom.
- Should have a boix for intergrating control amound units
- a final box that say "Final Process Charicterization...that's what you really want
A final verbal model is a "story" of what your system is and how it works. It is much like a recipe. The action steps in the model should be clear. Linier and parallel steps should be clearly defined. It should allow coversion to a control logic program simply by changing "language.
- Just a little suggestion: When talking about degrees of freedom (#6), you should be more specific in what you are referring to when discussing "knowns" and "unknowns". Known and unknown what? Process parameters? Variables? Rachel Ogar 21:46, 3 September 2008 (EDT)
- Also, there seems to be a bit of a discrepancy between steps #5 and #6 in the Step-by-Step Method For Describing Controls and Their Purpose if Example 2 is assumed to be correct. Specifically, it states in #6 that number of manipulated streams is calculated in #5. However, #5 seems to only dictate the number of valves, which may not correspond to the number of manipulated streams, which we see is the case in Example 2. Now if the pump and decompressor are considered valves, then steps #5 and #6 are cohesive, but Example 2 has not been performed correctly according to the specifications. That is, if the pump and decompressor are considered valves, then they should have been accounted for in step #5 of Example 2. Rachel Ogar 22:12, 3 September 2008 (EDT)
